The Mummy MOT

The Mummy MOT practitioner

You have got pregnant, grown your baby (or babies) for 9 months, gone through a gruelling labour or had a C-section, had stitches and then sent home with very little advice about how to look after yourself! Your body has gone through the most enormous changes and it is often expected for you to 'bounce back'.  This idea puts so much pressure on new mums.  It is so important to return to exercise and our normal activities carefully after birth.

Approximately 1 in 4 women experiences Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD) after birth irrespective of delivery mode.  The symptoms caused by PFD can lead to mums feeling like they are unable to enjoy a full and happy life.

I believe all mums deserve access to postnatal care and should not have to live with incontinence, tummy gap, pelvic organ prolapse and pain.

This is where a Mummy MOT can help you!

A Mummy MOT is a comprehensive postnatal check that can take pace from 6 weeks to many years after birth, it is suitable for both vaginal and C-section births.

What happens during Mummy MOT?

During your 60 minute assessment I'll cover the following:

  • Full postural screen

  • Abdominal muscle exam to check for any weakness or separation

  • Internal pelvic floor assessment

  • Check healing of scars or stitches

  • Screen for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction

  • Discuss your goals

After this we will talk through your assessment results and create a bespoke rehabilitation programme which can include hands on treatment, 1:1 pilates and a personalised exercise plan to help with your recovery.  Take a look at the postnatal rehab section and you'll get an idea of what the programme could look like for you.

Will I have to remove my clothes?

This is the most asked question I get!

The Mummy MOT includes an internal examination during which you will be required to remove the bottom half of your clothing. However, if you would prefer not to have an internal examination you can speak to me and we can discuss alternatives.

Is it too late to have my Mummy MOT?

No! It is never too late.

The Mummy MOT can be for anyone, at any stage after birth.  Its a very busy time when you have a small baby and exercise can be the last thing on your mind but if you are now starting to feel ready to get started give me a call and we can make sure you do it in a safe, effective and fun way!

My Mission.....

My goal is that every mum has the option of a Mummy MOT whether they have a complicated birth or not.

Please do not suffer in silence, postnatal conditions are common but NOT normal.

Every mum deserves a Mummy MOT.

I want to get mums back doing the things they love, whether that be walking, running, jumping, swimming, dancing etc!
